Minor Water Damage Restoration
If you are a Virginia home owner you might at some time have to deal with
water damage. The unexpected is
always around the corner and waiting to bite you. In most cases you will want to
hire a professional in to handle the work as they have the skills to handle any
situation and this is the only way to prevent problems in the future. If however
you want to dry a carpet yourself this article will give you some tips. Keep
reading to learn more.
The first thing you want to do is remove any furniture from the area. Use
caution if the furniture has wet legs as you do not want to place it on dry
carpet and end up with a furniture stain. Place it on tile or put it on plastic.
Next you will want to extract as much water from the carpet as possible. If you
have a strong shop vacuum you can use that but if not you can rent a carpet
cleaning machine from your local supermarket or home improvement store.
Take your time and get out as much water as possible. Now you will want to pull
the carpet up and cut out and remove the affected padding. You will purchase new
pad in the future to replace this. Place the carpet back down and put fans on
the carpet to dry it as soon as possible. Get as much airflow on the carpet as
you can. Once the carpet is dry you will need to take a pad sample and get a
replacement piece from your local home improvement store. Replace the section
and attach it to the existing pad with masking tape. Next place the carpet back
down and attach it to the tack strip using a knee kicker which is available for
rent at most home improvement stores. Finally all you have to do is clean the
carpet and you are done.
That is it, you are finally done. Remember before you take on this job you
should consider hiring a professional. If a large amount of water has spilt do
not even consider doing it yourself. There is much more involved in structure
drying than you think. You should only attempt very small jobs by yourself.
